IRVINE – On Friday, April 25, the Beckman Patriots hosted their annual Breast Cancer Awareness baseball game, and dominated the Irvine Vaqueros 5-0. Beckman’s entire team – from coaches, to players, and even proud fans who came out to support – were all decked out in pink Beckman Baseball gear.

Beckman rode into this league showdown with Irvine with hot pitching, and the streak was most certainly kept alive as senior pitcher Justin Pearson gave up just four hits. Fans in attendance had to wait until the third inning to witness the Vaqueros get their first runner on base.

The Patriots had an aggressive start, as senior catcher Dallas Dey hit a home run, leading off in the bottom of the first inning to put Beckman out on top 1-0 early in the ballgame.

The story of the matchup of the Vaqueros and Patriots was the hot-hitting from Beckman’s lineup. With production coming from Dey (2-2, HR, 1B, BB, SB, R), senior Brennan Guinet (2-2, 2B, 1B, RBI, R), and junior Isaiah Bull (1-2, 2B, BB, SB, R), the Patriots had a very solid, all-around day at the plate.

Commenting on what the Patriots can improve on before their next game, sophomore Tyler Geurts said, “We can improve on hitting the ball to opposite field more.” The run-scoring was spread all across the board for Beckman as the players scored one in the first inning, one in the third inning, and three in the fourth. In the fourth inning, the Patriots really opened the game. They recorded five of their ten hits in the inning, including two doubles thanks in part to Guinet and Bull.

Pitching-wise, Pearson really tamed the Vaqueros by recording four strikeouts, and conceding just four hits. Irvine was certainly searching for a way to figure out the masterful pitching of Beckman’s Pearson, as they batted just 4 for 24 in the loss. Pearson did not let the Vaqueros find the base pads any other way either. No walks were allowed by Pearson in the 5-0 shutout. Geurts credited the win to, ” The solid pitching staff combined with our great offensive approach.”

The Beckman Patriots have since swept a doubleheader against Katella High School and are preparing for their next games against some strong rivals, including Corona del Mar Sea Kings. Beckman will ride into this league rivalry with a record of 18-2, which is ranked 38th in the state of California.
